Get (optional) wrap-around support with our on-call teachers and tutors, academic coaches, guidance counselors, expert learning specialists, and family therapists.
For our California students, we offer dozens of college-prep and honors courses accredited by WASC and UC Doorways—start anytime year-round, with the right level of structure and teacher support, on a schedule you choose.
Self-paced, mastery-based learning
All courses are guided by our self-paced, mastery-based learning approach, in which we award grades based on a student’s demonstrated mastery of learning goals, rather than on “seat time” requirements or other arbitrary measures.
Each student at Eclipse Academy progresses at their own ideal pace, supported by our team of experienced educators and optional wrap-around support. We meet each student exactly where they are, and together we chart a custom course ahead. Avoid the busywork, and engage in meaningful learning.
An extensive, ever-expanding course catalog
Schools, colleges, and universities worldwide accept our transcripts and high school diplomas, as our WASC and UC Doorways accreditations are gold standards internationally.
Our courses meet University of California’s rigorous admissions requirements for college preparatory and honors “a - g” coursework. Looking for a class we don’t (yet) offer? New accredited and enrichment courses can be developed upon request, just ask!
Tailored just for you
To customize each course for each student, our experienced teachers draw upon a range of instructional strategies and learning resources…
…from inquiry-based activities developed in-house, to numerous third-party resources ranging in purpose and style, like Crash Course videos or AoPS math, to dual-enrollment online college courses via Arizona State University for our advanced students.
Communication after every session
Eclipse Academy teachers email home after every session, highlighting the session’s focus and activities, as well as any successes, challenges, and homework or independent practice.
We encourage an ongoing correspondence between school and home, so that everyone is on the same page, every step of the way.
Executive functioning & social-emotional learning
Eclipse Academy offers wrap-around services designed especially for our students and their families—from executive-functioning coaching with our learning specialists, to counseling with licensed family therapists.
Among our students we foster a growth mindset, self-awareness, social-emotional vocabulary, non-violent communication, and healthy accountability. With parents, we share strategies for supporting gifted and 2e children and teens, especially on the interplay of giftedness and traits like anxiety, avoidance, perfectionism, ADHD, Autism, and processing and executive function challenges. With a holistic approach to the academic, social, and emotional dimensions of giftedness and twice-exceptionalism, our students thrive.
Earn your high school diploma
Eclipse Academy is WASC-accredited as a comprehensive private school for students in grades 3 to 12. To graduate with a high school diploma from Eclipse Academy, each student completes 44 semester-long courses (220 course credits, 5 credits per semester):
● English Language Arts: 8 semesters
● Math: 6 semesters, including Algebra 1 and Geometry or higher
● Science: 6 semesters (at least 4 of which are lab-based) including Biology, and Chemistry or Physics
● Social Studies: 6 semesters, including World History, U.S. History, Government, and Economics
● Language Other Than English: 2 semesters
● Visual or Performing Arts: 2 semesters
● Physical Education: 4 semesters
● Health/Life Skills: 1 semester of one of: Health, Wellness, Mindfulness, Academic Skills, Life Skills, or Personal Finance
● Electives: 9 semesters of any academic, elective, or career-technical courses
In addition, to graduate from Eclipse Academy students complete a Capstone Project their senior year, integrated into any coursework of their choosing. Students also perform at least 15 hours of community service or civically-minded volunteer work.
Students complete “semester” courses (5 credits per semester) as quickly or slowly as they prefer in our self-paced, mastery-based learning model. In this sense, a “semester” refers to a specific set of learning outcomes. Eclipse does not require a set amount of class time, but instead awards course credit for a student’s demonstrated achievement of learning goals, with a customized approach to curriculum, instruction, and assessment. Our mastery-learning approach is common sense, without busywork nor arbitrary hoops, so that students have the time and accommodations necessary for meaningful learning.
Given our program’s self-paced nature, some students complete high school in the usual four-year timeframe, while others choose to accelerate their learning and graduate months or years early. Yet others need a slower pace, and take the time they need. Most full-time students plan to graduate from Eclipse Academy, while some join for just one or a few semesters, leveraging Eclipse as a temporary or transitional “bridge” program, aimed at getting back on track, or blazing ahead. We support each family’s unique academic and social-emotional goals, and each student’s preferred learning styles.
